ERCAC has an active portfolio of research interests. Work programmers
typically fall into one of three areas, namely Appearance, Durability
or The Environment. These are themes, which, in consultation with
members, the ERCAC has identified as having relevance and interest
for a broad spectrum of the paint and coatings industry.
Projects can be undertaken for single clients or may involve collaborative
partnerships of two or more companies. Work can be financed totally
through private funds, in which case confidentiality is of paramount
importance and the IPR (individual project report) belongs exclusively
to the sponsors. Other projects, particularly those of a wider
collaborative nature, where the interests of the public and more
than one sector of the industry may be concerned, can attract
whole or partial funding from the public sector.
ERCAC is particularly well placed to undertake investigations
where the results have a bearing on the development of new test
methods and standards. Such projects naturally require the drawing
together of expertise from several different companies and organizations.
While these activities may have very practical implications, all
the studies are underpinned by a desire to enhance scientific
understanding.
Where it is beneficial to effective progress, ERCAC can set up
and manage multi-discipline project teams consisting of a number
of industrial partners in conjunction with other research organizations,
or with appropriate universities.
